India vs New Zealand: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma set new all-time World Cup records during the semifinal in Mumbai | Cricket-world-cup News
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma set new records in ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup hory during India’s semifinal against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Kohli went past Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 673 runs for the record of most runs scored in one edition of the tournament. He also regered his eighth 50+ score in this tournament, also going past Tendulkar’s record of seven set in 2003.
The record of 673 looked to be under threat in 2019 from both Rohit and David Warner but neither could overhaul the sensational tally that Tendulkar had accumulated during India’s run to the final in South Africa.
Rohit, who provided India with yet another superb start, went past Chris Gayle’s record for the most sixes in the hory of the men’s Cricket World Cup. Rohit finished the day with 51 sixes to his name. Earlier in the tournament, Rohit also went past Chris Gayle’s record for the most number of sixes in international cricket (three formats combined). Gayle had hit 553 in his career, Rohit went past that soon after he crossed half century against Afghanan.
Also in this tournament, the Indian captain had also broken Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in the hory of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Tendulkar had scored six centuries in 44 innings he played at the World Cup, while Rohit brought up his seventh ton in the tournament in his 19th innings.
Both Rohit and Kohli are among the top five runscorers of the ongoing tournament.
