India vs Pakan T20 WC match unlikely to be moved from Nassau Stadium, organisers assure of remedial work on pitch before Sunday’s mega clash | Cricket News

India vs Pakan T20 World Cup 2024: With the Nassau Stadium pitches recently coming under fire for uneven bounce which resulted in India skipper Rohit Sharma retiring hurt in the match against Ireland, the governing body dismissed the claims that the marquee clash between arch-rivals India and Pakan on June 9 will be shifted from the venue, according to a report Times London. However, the organisers admitted the problems with the playing surface and assured that remedial work was taking place before Sunday’s match.
“T20 inc [the organising committee] and the ICC recognise that the pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consently as we would have all wanted. The world-class grounds team have been working hard since the conclusion of yesterday’s game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches,” a statement from the organizers revealed.
The article also pointed out that the inconsent bounce on the pitch was caused grassy veins in the track with the pitches now being top-dressed and levelled to try to lessen the impact of the veins.
With the grass pushed in rolling the wicket, the ball should hit a flatter surface and therefore play better, the report added.
The India vs Pakan is one of the most hotly-anticipated clashes in the World Cup with the 30,000-seater stadium completely sold out which would make it difficult for the match to be moved to any other venue.
However, this was not the first time the pitch of the Nassau Stadium has come under scanner with the Sri Lanka and South Africa match also suffering from the same problems. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 77 while the Proteas took over 16 overs to chase down the flimsy target, losing 4 wickets on the way.

Andy Flower, the former Zimbabwe cricketer had branded the pitch dangerous while former players like Irfan Pathan and Michael Vaughan also expressed their displeasure over the playing surface.
