Dele Alli’s first match in 2 years ends in 9 mins after midfielder gets sent off in Como vs AC Milan encounter | Football News

In 2018-19 season, Dele Alli was on the top of the world, having reached the Champions League final with Tottenham as well as playing a part in England decent World Cup campaign. In 2025, the former England international was sent back in 9 mins in his first match in 2 years.
The incident happened in a Serie A match where Alli’s Como was playing against AC Milan. The 28-year-old Alli had only just come off the bench for his Como debut and his first appearance in a match since last playing for Turkish club Besiktas in February 2023.
He would then foul countryman Ruben Loftus-Cheek from behind which was initially given as a yellow card before being upgraded to a red after a VAR check. Alli’s former Spurs teammate Kyle Walker, who currently plays for Milan, also seemed to ask the referee to overturn the red card.

Alli, one of English football’s biggest talents, saw his career derailed in recent years and spent six weeks in rehab in the United States in 2023 in a bid to deal with mental-health problems stemming from a traumatic childhood and after getting addicted to sleeping pills.
“I got addicted to sleeping tablets and it’s probably a problem that not only I have. I think it’s something that it’s going around more than people realise in football,” Alli had said in an interaction with Gary Neville in 2023..
“Hopefully me coming out and speaking about it can help people. Don’t get me wrong, they work. I think with our schedule, you have a game, you have to be up early to train, the adrenaline and stuff,” he had added.
Alli did not play at all last season for Everton before his contract expired in June 2024. His last appearances were for Besiktas during a loan spell the previous campaign.
