Indore: 8 students of government medical college booked for ragging

Police claimed the senior medical students used to call the junior students at their rented flats where they used to force them to do obscene acts with classmates

As many as eight unidentified senior medical students of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College, Indore, were booked for assaulting, ragging and forcing first-year students for doing obscene acts, said police on Tuesday. The FIR was regered at Sanyogitaganj police station on Monday evening an anti-ragging committee of MGM Medical College. The complaint was filed after students collected audio evidence against the seniors and submitted them to the authorities. The juniors were asked to slap each other. The senior students used to torture them asking them to do sit-ups. They used to mentally harass them”, the complaint filed stated. College dean Dr Sanjay Dixit said, “The complaint was filed with UGC’s anti-ragging helpline and later forwarded to us. As the complaint has electronic evidence including WhatsApp chat and audio recordings that prove the ragging and act of harassment with junior students, the committee held a meeting on Monday and was of the view that we have evidence against the senior students. The complaint was filed anonymously but evidence is found to be true.” Police have started an investigation and are trying to identify the senior medical students. Sanyuktaganj police station in charge Tehzeeb Qazi said, “We have filed a complaint and started investigation. We are trying to identify the students. The FIR has been regered under section 294 (obscene comments), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and under Anti-Ragging Act.”
