Injury blow for England as James Anderson suffers groin injury ahead of Ashes
England seamer James Anderson has sustained a minor groin injury, while playing for Lancashire against Somerset in the County Championship.
Anderson, 40, was forced off the field and played no further part across the final three days of the game, which ended in a draw on Sunday afternoon.
England are expected to announce their squad to face Ireland next week, with Anderson, who went for a scan on Saturday, set to be “assessed nearer the time”, according to an ECB statement.

England are already set to be without fast bowler Olly Stone due to a hamstring injury, while there remains uncertainty about Jofra Archer’s hopes of playing any part in the series after the 28-year-old returned early from the IPL this week in order to rest a nagging elbow injury.
England are set to face Ireland on June 1, followed Ashes.
