INX Media case: P Chidambaram, son Karti named in CBI charge sheet, matter to be taken up on October 21
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed charge sheet before Delhi court against ex-finance minister P Chidambaram in INX Media case. 14 people have been named in the charge sheet including Karti Chidambaram.
The probe agency had sought 14-day custodial interrogation of the 74-year old senior Congress leader.
Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar has further allowed the ED to quiz Chidambaram and permission has been granted to him to have home cooked food, western toilet, medicines while being in the ED custody.
The court had on Wednesday had issued production warrant against him in the INX Media money laundering case lodged by the ED.
Yesterday, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram accused the central agencies of “bogus investigation” and working with an “agenda” to keep his father P Chidambaram locked up after a court today sent the former union minister to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate till October 24.
Talking to the media, Karti claimed that there is no ostensible purpose than to keep him in custody.
P Chidambaram was arrested by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and a special court sent to the ED custody till October 24.
The senior Congress leader was booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in August to probe the charges of corruption.
The CBI is investigating alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance given to INX Media to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 by Chidambaram when he was the Finance Minister.
