iPhone users can now use WhatsApp as their default calling and messaging app: Here’s how | Technology News

WhatsApp has rolled out a new update for iPhone users which lets them set it as the default calling and messaging app on their smartphones.
Last year, Apple said that it would allow iPhone users in the European Union to change their calling and messaging app, but later announced that the functionality would be available to everyone with iOS 18.2. As noted WaBetaInfo, you will need to update WhatsApp for iOS to the latest version (v25.8.74) to be able to use the feature.

How to set WhatsApp as default calls and messages app?
1. To do so, open the Settings app on your iPhone, scroll down to find the section named “Apps” and tap on it.

2. On the screen that appears, you will see an option named ‘Default apps’, clicking on which will let you change the default apps like browser, messaging, calling and email.
3. Now, tap on messaging and calling and choose WhatsApp from the l.
When WhatsApp is set as the default app on iPhone, your device will automatically open the selected app whenever you tap on a phone number or press the message button from the contacts l.
In addition to being able to change the default calling and messaging app, iPhone users can now also change the email, call filtering, translation, passwords, keyboard and payments apps.
