IPL 2018: Reliance Jio to deploy pre-5G massive MIMO technology at Mumbai and Delhi stadiums

The Indian Premier League kicks off tonight, and tech companies are doing their bit to make the match experience as enjoyable as possible. Among them is Reliance Jio which is deploying pre-5G massive MIMO technology at stadiums in Mumbai and Delhi.

With this technology, users in the stadium will be able to enjoy super-fast 4G connectivity. Massive MIMO expands existing network capacity by five to seven times over existing spectrum. In addition to massive MIMO, Jio will also be deploying 4G eNodeBs, hundreds of small cells to seamless connectivity. So essentially users will be able to experience seamless connectivity despite the heavy load on the network.

Reliance Jio isn’t the only one ensuring there is high-speed connectivity during the matches. Bharti Airtel too has announced that it will be deploying its pre-5G Massive MIMO technology across IPL stadiums. The telecom operator will be covering stadiums in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mohali, Indore, Jaipur, Bengaluru and Chennai.

“As part of our endeavor to offer a seamless high-speed 4G experience to our customers, we are deploying this advanced Pre-5G solution to enable a high speed and high capacity in-stadia network experience at IPL match venues,” Shyam Mardikar, Chief Technology Officer – Mobile, Bharti Airtel said.

IPL 2018 kicks off tonight, and this year there will be a total of 60 matches. The Cricket tournament starts tonight, and will go on till April 27.
