IPL 2023: Arshdeep Singh breaks the middle stump twice as he cleans up MI’s Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera
Punjab Kings bowler Arshdeep Singh rained fire over the Mumbai Indians as he broke the middle stump twice, cleaning up Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera in back to back deliveries at the Wankhede on Saturday.
Singh had to defend 16 in the last over and came out unscathed as he gave away just 2 runs and finished his spell with 4/29.
For Verma’s wicket, Singh ran in and snapped the middle stump in half. The next ball to Wadhera was a carbon copy of the ball he bowled to Varma and fetched the same result as the middle stump was broken in two again. “I’ve never seen two stumps snapped inside an over, let alone one match,” went Brett Lee in commentary.

“Feels good whenever I take wickets. Right now I feel even happier as the team won. I have shortened my run-up as it helped me with the no-ball problem and I am enjoying my cricket at the moment,” Arshdeep said after the match.
Zaheer Khan and former Punjab Kings coach Anil Kumble also had high praises for the seamer.
“It was superb to just see a fast bowler running in and nailing those yorkers. On this ground, I’ve seen Bumrah do that a lot. Win close games. The way that last over started, you knew it was never going to be easy,” Khan said.
“He has done that before for Punjab (death overs bowling). He’s taken that role for Punjab. He has taken those tough overs. Today, it was going to be tough. Not easy to consently nail those yorkers in the end. Tilak Verma is in the form of his life. I know he was just batting at four. But to nail the yorker against him, just fantastic,” Kumble opined.
Ultimately, The PBKS beat mi 13 runs. Invited to bat, Punjab Kings piled up 214 for 8 with Sam Curran, the highest paid overseas recruit, smashing 55 off 29 balls and adding 92 for the fifth wicket in just eight overs with Harpreet Bhatia (41 off 28 balls).
National T20 team contender Jitesh Sharma (25 off 7 balls) also upped the ante towards the end.For MI, leg-spinner Piyush Chawla (2/15 in 3 overs) was the best bowler with all the pacers getting more or less hammered.
Chasing a big target of 215, MI could score only 201 for 6 in their 20 overs.
Cameron Green top-scored for MI with 67 whie Suryakumar Yadav and captain Rohit Sharma chipped in with 57 and 44 respectively.
