IPL 2023: Nitish Rana and Hrithik Shokeen fined for on-field brawl in MI vs KKR game
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana and Mumbai Indians off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen have been fined 25 per cent and 10 per cent of the match fee respectively after breaching the IPL code of conduct during their on-field brawl in the first innings at Wankhade Stadium on Sunday.
According to the statement released IPL, Rana admitted to Level 1 Offence under Article 2.21 and Shokeen to Level 1 Offence under Article 2.5.
In the first ball of the 9th over, Rana came down the wicket to smash Shokeen but he completely miscued his shot and holed out to Ramandeep Singh in the deep.
As Rana was departing, Shokeen’s gesture enraged the Kolkata captain and he had a go at the bowler, pointing his fingers and gesturing angrily. The umpire and the other Mumbai Indians players had to intervene.
In addition to Shokeen, stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav was fined for a slow over-rate from Mumbai Indians.
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Suryakumar Yadav was fined Rs. 12 lakhs,” quoted the statement released.
Despite the fine Suryakumar Yadav would be happy with his side’s performance after they beat the visitors KKR five wickets chasing 186 runs. Venkatesh Iyer scored a magnificent ton which went in vain.
On the other hand, for Mumbai Indians, Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun made his IPL debut. Rohit Sharma despite coming as an impact substitute in the second innings could not lead the side on the field citing a stomach bug.
