IPL 2023: Schedule, timing, venues, squads and all you need to know about 16th season of IPL
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023: The Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) action is all set to begin on March 31 (Friday) at reigning champions Gujarat Titans’ (GT) home ground in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium where they will face MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK). So fasten your seatbelts and get ready to take an almost two-month-long voyage to watch 74 matches across 12 venues this season.
IPL 2023 Full Schedule
The BCCI announced the IPL 2023 schedule on February 17, 2023 and the 16th season will kickstart with a GT vs CSK blockbuster clash followed up the first double-header day where Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) vs Delhi Capitals (DC) battles will be seen in Mohali and Lucknow respectively. IPL 2023 timings
The IPL 2023 will have 18 doubleheaders, with the day games starting at 3:30 PM and the evening games starting at 07:30 PM .
IPL 2023 venues
After staging IPL across Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad due to covid interruptions in the last edition, the IPL 2023 is back to the home and away format, where all the teams will play 7 home games and 7 away games respectively in the league stage. A total of 70 league-stage matches will be played across 12 venues over the course of 52 days.
IPL 2023 format
No change in the format of the event as the ten teams are divided into two groups of five. In the group stage, each team plays 14 games facing the other four teams in their group two times each (one home and one away game), four teams in the other group once, and the remaining team two times. As far as the points system is concerned, the team winning a match will be awarded 2 points, while the losing side gets 0. In case of a draw or no result, both teams will be awarded 1 point.
Four games will be played in the playoffs- Qualifier 1 will be between the teams ranked first and second in the group stage, Eliminator will be between the teams ranked third and fourth in the group stage, Qualifier 2 will be between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator and the IPL final wil be between the winners of Qualifiers 1 and 2.
IPL 2023 Live Streaming Details
IPL 2023 will be broadcast on the Star India Network which will offer coverage in eight languages in the Indian subcontinent, – Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam, and Kannada. Disney Star retained their Indian sub-continent TV rights paying Rs 23,575 crore (Rs 57.5 crore/game) while Viacom18 bagged the digital rights with a winning bid of Rs 23,578 crore. Reliance Jio has announced that it would be streaming the entire season of IPL 2023 free of cost in 4K resolution(UltraHD).
