IPL 2024: Hardik Pandya traded to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans, as Cam Green moves to RCB | Cricket News
In what will go down as one of the biggest Indian Premier League transfers, all-rounder Hardik Pandya returned to Mumbai Indians as a trade was completed with his current franchise Gujarat Titans.
The Indian Express understands that the deal was confirmed late on Sunday evening hours after the deadline for teams to announce the l of players they had released and retained had expired. While Sunday is the deadline for franchises to confirm the l of players released from the roster and those retained, trading between teams could have happened as late as December 12, one week before the official auction date.
To facilitate the trade for Pandya, Cameron Green – the Australian all rounder who was brought in for big money at the last auction – has moved from Mumbai Indians to Royal Challengers Bangalore, The Indian Express understands.
The trades are still to be confirmed the IPL or the respective franchises.
The Indian board had kept a deadline of November 26 for teams to submit the names of players they have retained so that they could begin the process for the IPL auction in Dubai on December 19. Trade between two teams doesn’t necessarily act as a barrier for the auction. After IPL teams submit their player rosters, franchises now have better clarity of the purse each team has in the auction and which players they can put up for trade.
Mumbai Indians had earlier said that captain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Piyush Chawla, Akash Madhwal, Nehal Wadhera, Kumar Kartikeya Singh, Vishnu Vinod, Shams Mulani and Arjun Tendulkar were the Indian players retained for the 2024 season.
In the run up to the retention deadline, Mumbai Indians acquired Romario Shepherd via trade. The franchise also said in that statement that the overseas contingent of Tim David, Dewald Brevis, Jason Behrendorff, Cameron Green continue with Mumbai Indians. But now Green has moved down south to RCB.
Also paving the way for Pandya’s arrival was the release of Jofra Archer. MI confirmed that they have released Archer, Tran Stubbs, Duan Jansen, Jhye Richardson, Ramandeep Singh, Raghav Goyal, Arshad Khan and Hrithik Shokeen. The following players were also released as they came in as replacement players – Sandeep Warrier for Jasprit Bumrah; Chris Jordan for Jofra Archer; Riley Meredith for Jhye Richardson.
