IPL Points Table 2024, Team Rankings: The Rajasthan Royals may have qualified for the playoffs as a result of Delhi’s win over Lucknow but the first-ever IPL winners were handed a big blow to their hopes of a top-two position after Punjab Kings inched past them in a low scoring affair five wickets. As a result of the defeat, RR now have to rely on Sunrisers Hyderabad losing at least one of their remaining two games to forge their path to Qualifier 1.
On Tuesday, Delhi Capitals’ 19-run win over Lucknow Super Giants has hurt the chances of both these teams qualifying for the Playoffs.
DC, after playing all their games, rose to fifth on the points table and are on level with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (fourth) and the Chennai Super Kings (third) with 14 points. But the 2020 runner ups have a dismal net run rate (-0.377). SRH have to lose both their matches nearly 200 runs combined for DC to stand any chance.
LSG on the other hand, were dealt a serious blow after their third loss in a row and remain seventh in the table with one game to go and only 12 points in hand. They face the Mumbai Indians in their last game of the league stage and have an even worse net run rate than Delhi (-0.787). LSG’s had a realic hope of advancing winning their last two matches but with a match to go and a poor NRR, their playoff hopes are all but gone too.

The playoff scenario
KKR, RR, CSK and SRH are the four sides that are currently in the top four. The top four teams will qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. The top two teams will play in the first Qualifier with the winner going straight into the final. The Eliminator will be played between the teams who are placed third and fourth in the IPL 2024 standings. The winner of the Eliminator will lock horns against the losing team of Qualifier 1. The winner of the Qualifier 2 will enter the final, which will be held at May 26.
