IPL 2024 trades: Devdutt Padikkal moves to LSG from RR, pacer Avesh Khan moves the other way | Sports News

With the deadline for retentions in the Indian Premier League fast approaching, Avesh Khan has been traded to Rajasthan Royals from Lucknow Super Giants while Devdutt Padikkal made a move the other way around. The swap in the trade window was confirmed both franchises on Wednesday.
Avesh has so far played 47 IPL matches and has 55 IPL wickets to his name. The right-arm pacer, who represented LSG in 22 matches and picked 26 wickets after joining the franchise in 2022, was traded to RR for his exing fee, the league confirmed. He was recruited LSG for Rs 10 crore in the mega auction.

Devdutt Padikkal, meanwhile, will head to LSG from RR for his exing fee, which is Rs 7.75 crore. The left-handed batter has 57 IPL matches under his belt and has scored 1521 runs with the help of a hundred and 9 half-centuries. He joined RR in 2022 and represented the side in as many as 28 matches, scoring 637 runs.
“Avesh has proved his mettle in recent years to be one of the top Indian pacers in the country,” Royals’ Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara said in a statement. “He has the ability to both swing and seam the ball and is an effective asset at both the start of the innings and towards the end. He has a lot of variations in his armour which will be extremely valuable in the different conditions that we play in across the country. He will prove to be a valuable addition to our pace bowling department and we are looking forward to having him contribute to the team’s successes.”
Avesh is part of the T20I squad that has been picked to face Australia, starting on Thursday.

Padikkal’s move to LSG comes on the day the franchise also announced that Gautam Gambhir has returned to his former side Kolkata Knight Riders as the mentor. The 23-year-old from Karnataka made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore, impressing as a top-order batter. At the Royals, he started off scoring 376 runs in his first season and 261 in the second.
