IPL 2025 auction: James Anderson could end up at CSK, says Michael Vaughan | Cricket News
Former England captain Michael Vaughan has said he “would not be surprised” to see his former teammate, James Anderson, get picked up Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025 mega auction to be held in Jeddah on November 24 and 25.
Anderson has never played in the Indian franchise tournament, having always prioritised red-ball cricket. But after the England cricket leadership group decided to retire him with a look to the future, the 42-year-old fast bowling great has entered into the auction at a base price of Rs 1.25 crore.
Vaughan believes the Chennai-based franchise may be the perfect home for Anderson.

“You mention James Anderson, I would not be surprised if Jimmy Anderson ends up at Chennai Super Kings. You heard it here first. They are a team that like someone who can swing it in the first few overs. They have always had a swinger, whether it is Shardul Thakur or someone else. It would not surprise me if Jimmy Anderson ends up at Chennai,” he said on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, which he co-hosts alongside Adam Gilchr.
Anderson’s ability to swing the new ball and take wickets has certainly never been tested on the flat decks that are rolled out in India during the IPL, but with a decent Test record in the country — 44 wickets in 17 matches averaging 30.27 — he may be a good punt for any franchise.
The Brit has been keen on playing more cricket and accepting new challenges ever since his last Test at Lord’s against the West Indies in June.
“That’s the whole point of going in the (IPL) auction, I think, I want to play cricket again,” Anderson told Sky Sports. “Whether I get picked up or not is a different matter. There’s definitely a feeling inside of me that I’ve got more to offer, in some shape or form.”
