IPL 2025: Sanju Samson slapped with Rs 24 lakh fine for code of conduct breach GT vs RR match | Ipl News

Sanju Samson had a forgettable night in the office as the Rajasthan Royals skipper as his side suffered their third defeat of the IPL 2025 season a hefty 58-run margin against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Not only did his side dip in a steep 218-run chase despite winning the toss and opting to field first, but Samson also suffered a huge blow as Samson was penalised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for breaching the code of conduct in the game.
Skipper Samson was slapped with a huge Rs 24 lakh fine after his team maintained a slow over-rate during the bowling innings where they conceded a chunky 217/6 to the Titans in 20 overs. This was Rajasthan’s second offence under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which comprises rules regarding the minimum over-rate offence. Rajasthan were earlier fine for the same offence in the match against Chennai Super Kings last month’s home game at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. However, it was stand-in captain Riyan Parag, who had filled in for an injured Samson, who was charged with INR 12 lakhs.
“The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” an IPL media release read.
Despite him putting on a rearguard 40 with the bat, Samson could not prevent a crumbling chase as the rest of the top-order failed to show up in a chase that progressively slipped out of their hands. The Royals were bowled out for the first time since the 2023 season as Titans rode on opener Sai Sudharsan’s rollicking 82 to win their fourth consecutive match and top the standings.
