IPL: ‘He was lucky’, says Shreyas Iyer on Abhishek Sharma’s innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad | Ipl News

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was shocked that Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down a total of 245 with two overs to spare and said that he was still laughing thinking about how easily that score was overcome the Hyderabad blitzkrieg.
“I think it was a fantastic total, to be honest. Still making me laugh that they (SRH) chased it with two overs to spare,” he said.
Iyer then spoke about Abhishek Sharma’s innings. The Sunrisers opener smashed 141 runs of just 55 deliveries, hitting 14 fours and 10 sixes on the way to chasing down the Kings’ total. But Iyer felt that Sharma was lucky after his team let down a few catches earlier in the game.

“We could have taken a few catches, but he (Abhishek) was lucky. He was exceptional. In a nutshell we didn’t bowl to our expectations; we have to go to the drawing board and make amends. The opening partnership (between Abhishek and Head) was phenomenal, they didn’t give us too many opportunities to capitalise,” he added.
But largely Iyer said that it was his inability to rotate bowlers properly that got the Sunrisers going during their chase. Iyer said that while the total was more than enough, losing Lockie Ferguson was also an added burden when defending their total.
“I didn’t rotate the bowlers properly. Losing Lockier Ferguson was a big setback. I don’t want to use it as an excuse, as other bowlers are also capable of taking wickets. I thought 230 would be enough, but we got more than that. The ball was stopping a bit, and the pitch was slow in the first innings. It becomes easy for the batters due to dew in the second essay. Still, it was one of the best innings I have seen in my life,” said Iyer.
