(AP Photo)Israel-Iran Ceasefire News LIVE Updates: In a phone call made from Air Force One en route to the NATO summit on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump reportedly delivered a “firm and direct” message to Israeli Prime Miner Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the ceasefire in the region. According to a White House official, Trump stressed the urgency of maintaining calm and conveyed deep US concerns over any escalation. “The prime miner understood the severity of the situation and the concerns President Trump expressed,” the official noted.
Iran’s retaliation to US strikes: After the US attacked Iran’s nuclear sites with its B-2 bomber on June 22, Iran launched its retaliatory strikes targeting America’s Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Monday night (around 10 pm ). This triggered closures of air spaces in several gulf countries. Explosions were heard over Doha after Iran reportedly launched six missiles to target the US air base in the region. Iran’s state media has said the ceasefire has been “imposed” on Israel following the “successful” attack Tehran’s forces in Qatar.
Tension in Middle East escalates outward: Threat levels in the Strait of Hormuz have been high since tension in the Israel-Iran conflict escalated. However, the movement of oil tankers have largely remained steady. Post Trump’s announcement of ceasefire, the Israeli military warned the residents of Tehran’s dricts to evacuate immediately. Meanwhile, France has condemned an Israeli strike on Tehran’s Evin prison.
