Ishan Kishan reveals work he did during the World Cup, which helped him in 58-run knock against Australia | Cricket News

For the majority of his calculated 58-run innings against Australia on Thursday, Ishan Kishan was playing with a safety-first approach in the first T20I in Visakhapatnam. However, against leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha, the left-hander showed a different side to his game: the version which Indian fans are more familiar with, especially in the T20 format.
The 25-year-old extracted 30 runs from just 10 deliveries of Sangha while he scored run-a-ball 28 against the other bowlers.
“During the World Cup when I wasn’t playing, I asked myself before every practice session, ‘What is important for me now?’ What could I do? I practised a lot in nets. I was constantly talking to the coaches about the game, and how to take the game deep. How to target certain bowlers,” Kishan said after the game.

His 112-run partnership with skipper Suryakumar Yadav helped India to lay the foundation for the team chasing its highest T20I total. After coming into bat in the first over, Kishan showed maturity and sound temperament throughout his stay and scored a sublime half-century.
“We lost two wickets early and partnership was very important. I played with Surya bhai in the same team in IPL also so I know how he plays, and what shots he can play… communication I think it was very good today in the middle. We were talking to each other about which bowler we have to take, we have to keep on rotating the strike.” he added.
Suryakumar, on the other hand, shrugged off the disappointment of a World Cup final defeat with a captain’s knock. But it was Rinku Singh’s composure that took a young Indian team to a thrilling two-wicket victory to give India 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series.
