‘Deepika Padukone is with me, pyaar zaroor hoga’: Shah Rukh Khan confirms romance in King, says he’s playing ‘new kind of macho hero’ | Bollywood News

Shah Rukh Khan’s 60th birthday turned into a double celebration for his fans as the superstar unveiled the much-anticipated first look of his upcoming film King on the special occasion. The celebrations didn’t stop there — SRK also met fans at an auditorium in Mumbai, where he shared exciting details about the project, including a key revelation about his on-screen romantic angle with Deepika Padukone.
Revealing the concept behind King, Shah Rukh said, “I don’t want to give out too much of the story of King. Once more and more assets come up, you’ll know more about the film. There are several characters in the film. The idea behind the film is that we end up taking big decisions when we end up taking things personally. We should think whether what we are doing is right or not.”
He continued, “Also, we are not going to take any sides in King. If you like our thought, then do follow it. Ya fir bura hi karte rehna!” When a fan shouted that they have a lot of pyaar for Shah Rukh, the actor playfully replied, “Mere saath film mein Deepika Padukone bhi hai. Pyaar toh zaroor hoga! (I have Deepika with me, so love will obviously be there).”

For the unversed, Deepika made her acting debut alongside Shah Rukh in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om (2007). Since then, the duo has delivered several hits together, including Chennai Express (2013), Happy New Year (2014), Pathaan (2023), and Jawan (2023). Their on-screen chemry continues to be one of Bollywood’s most adored pairings.

Shah Rukh also spoke about his dynamic with King’s director, Siddharth Anand, who previously directed him in the blockbuster Pathaan. “Siddharth is a very, very organized director. I learned a lot. I didn’t know how to play an action hero before that. I have done a couple of action films, but when a director directs you and tells you certain things while you are trying to do a scene, you have to be smart enough to understand and take it from him,” SRK shared.

He added, “I have never done ‘hero-hero’ massy films; maybe Karan Arjun (1995). Baazigar (1993) was a very evil character. Hence, whatever Sid told me, I imbibed that. As a matter of fact, it helped me do what I did in Jawan (2023). We have become friends now as we’ve been working for 2-3 years. What also transpired is that he understood how I’d like to create a new kind of macho hero. Also, he’s a very aesthetic director. He’s wonderfully aesthetic. Bahut sundar banata hai film ko.”
King boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Deepika Padukone, Abhay Verma, Arshad Warsi, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Raghav Juyal. The film is also rumoured to feature Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Saurabh Shukla, Akshay Oberoi, and Karanvir Malhotra. Adding to the excitement, Shah Rukh’s daughter Suhana Khan will reportedly play his protégé in the film, while Abhishek Bachchan is set to portray the antagon.
