Israeli airstrikes hit Yemen’s capital targeting Iran-backed Houthis rebels: reports | World News

Israeli airstrikes struck Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, early on Sunday, according to Houthi-run al-Masirah television. It is the first reported strike on the rebel-held city since 17 August, when Israel said it hit energy sites linked to the group.
Israel has not confirmed the latest attack.
The Houthis, who are backed Iran, have been firing missiles and drones towards Israel and targeting ships in the Red Sea for nearly two years. They say the actions are in support of Palestinians during the Gaza conflict. Most of the projectiles launched at Israel are intercepted before reaching their target.

An Israeli Air Force official, speaking to the Associated Press (AP) on condition of anonymity in line with military rules, said that a projectile launched from Yemen on Friday night was a cluster munition.
“It was the first time the Houthis had used a cluster bomb against Israel since they began firing rockets in 2023,” the official told AP.
The official added that such munitions are more difficult to intercept and “represent additional technology provided to the Houthis Iran”.
