‘It was a long awaited hundred’: Jemimah Rodrigues opens up on maiden century | Cricket News

After Jemimah Rodrigues’ maiden ODI century powered India to their highest-ever ODI total of 370/5 in the match against Ireland on Sunday, the batter opened up about the milestone.
“It was a long awaited hundred. It was very special, especially to get it in this ground in Saurashtra. Because we used to play a lot of U-19 cricket here. I just fell back to how I used to play U-19 cricket here because I used to score a lot of 100s, a lot of 200s. So it is nice coming back to the same place,” Rodrigues said in a BCCI video.
“More than anything, just living up top the role the team gave me today. The team wanted me to take it deep and I was happy to do that. It was very nice I had Harleen alongside me because we understand each other’s game really well. Today what I thought was that I have to bat till the 50th over. So I thought even initially I take a few balls, it’s okay. But Harleen understood that well and she kept going. Our partnership was really crucial at that time and I told Harleen, we have to bat at least till the 43rd over,” she added.

In the 183-run stand with Harleen, it was Jemimah’s intent that made it a match-winning effort. Her innings was a sight to behold.

With a lot of overs to play with, she went about building an innings but once she touched fifty, the Mumbai player took just 28 more deliveries to reach her first ODI century.
