‘It’s a terror attack’: US house panel slams NYT Pahalgam report | World News

The US Government has publicly criticised The New York Times (NYT) over its reporting on the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people, including a foreign national, were gunned down terrors.
The attack, claimed Pakan-based group The Resance Front—an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba—was described NYT as a “militant” attack, and included a line noting that it was Prime Miner Narendra Modi who termed it a “terror attack.”
NYT called out for ‘militant’ framing
The Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives took to social media, slamming the NYT headline—‘At Least 24 Tours Gunned Down Militants in Kashmir’—as “removed from reality.”

“This was a terror attack, plain and simple,” the committee wrote, adding, “Whether it’s India or Israel, when it comes to terrorism, the NYT is removed from reality.”
The post also included an edited image correcting the NYT headline, with the caption: “Hey, NYT, we fixed it for you.”

Terrorism vs Militancy
The difference, experts note, is significant. Militancy usually refers to internal armed rebellion with political motives. Terrorism, however, often involves cross-border elements, targeting civilians to destabilize a region through fear and violence.
India also clarified these links. After the attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired PM Modi, was briefed on the cross-border linkages, noting that it followed the peaceful elections and economic progress in the region.
