‘It’s not like we talk 24×7 every day’: Sunil Chhetri talks about his friendship with Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli and Sunil Chhetri are two of the biggest names in Indian sporting culture, but their friendship is one full of mutual respect and admiration.
Over the years, Kohli and Chhetri have supported each other through thick and thin. They have shared many memorable moments, both on and off the field.
In a recent chat show, Chhetri revealed how he and Kohli have a lot of deep and meaningful conversations whenever they meet. The duo also talk about overcoming high-pressure situations in their respective sports.
Chhetri speaking on the “In the Stands” show said, “We talk about a lot of normal things. We share a lot of laughter. We share a lot of jokes and a lot of funny stuff. I have had a lot of deep and meaningful chats. It’s not like we talk 24×7 every day. There are phases when we do not talk for months but the best part is that he understands and so do I.
“But, we catch up exactly from where we left it. The few times when I have felt the heat of who I am and the need to perform and the few times that he has felt the heat of who he is and the need to perform, is exactly when we have chatted. He understands that not everyone can understand what we are going through and it just hits the right note,” Chhetri added.
The 38-year-old also acknowledged that if someone would have given him a chance to write a book on his dream life he would have not written the way it turned out for him. “I am Sunil Chhetri. There’s only one and I am living an absolute dream,” he quipped.
“ I say this with extreme humility. It is an absolute privilege and honour to be who I am. I am profoundly blessed. The number of years I have played, the number of things I have achieved, the people I have shared the dressing room with, it’s an unbelievable feat. I am very thankful to a lot of people for that,” the Bengaluru FC striker said.
Chettri has been a top performer for both club and country. He scored 56 goals in 134 appearances for Bengaluru FC and 92 goals in 142 appearances for India.
