‘It’s very unlike Australia’: Michael Vaughan, Geoffrey Boycott, Isa Guha say Pat Cummins’ side looked all at sea

Former England cricketers has made a scathing attack on Australia’s performance on Day 2 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford on Thursday.
“Australia looked all at sea at times, particularly Cummins who was scratching his head,” Isa Guha said on BBC.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan said the Australian team has lacked ruthlessness after going 2-0 up in the Ashes.
“I think the mentality of Australia since going 2-0 up has been slightly weak,” Vaughan said on the BBC.
“They’re trying to hold onto what they’ve got. It’s very unlike Australia to see fielders all the way around the boundary.
“Tactically, they lost a bit in the afternoon of day two when they went to the short ball and then wide of off stump. Australian sides that I’ve known and watched for many, many generations have been teams that have always hammered a length and hit the top of off stump.”
Geoffrey Boycott told The Telegraph: “Australia’s bowlers were ‘all over the place.’ and that the ‘wheels had come off’ for the side.”
Fellow former England captain Nasser Hussain wrote in the Daily Mail that Australia had bowled “poorly” to Crawley in particular, who went on to score a thrilling 189.

“Australia just didn’t bowl enough there (swinging the ball away) to exploit that vulnerability despite him driving balls on the up, and it meant they failed to build up pressure,” Hussain wrote.
“Here, they (Australia) have been defensive from the off, from their selection to their tactics and it is as though they’re trying to stumble over the line to retain the urn,” he added.
