Jaat box office collection day 11: Sunny Deol’s action drama keeps going strong; Rs 1 cr shy of crossing Gadar box office record | Bollywood News

Jaat box office collection day 11: Sunny Deol’s longevity in the career, and his stellar comeback after the blockbuster success of Gadar 2 is an interesting trend in Hindi cinema. And it was cemented after the consency in the numbers of his latest film, Jaat, directed Gopichand Mallineni. Despite the collections dipping in the second weekend of its run, the film still managed to make a respectable Rs 12.9 crore, with the Sunday numbers amounting for an impressive Rs 5.65 crore. This is the second-best day of the film since the extended opening weekend that extended till Monday.

The domestic collections of Jaat now stands at Rs 75 crore, and had a decent 22.72% occupancy with the evening shows getting filled at 31.69%. The biggest challenge in its run so far has been the release of Kesari: Chapter 2 last Friday. The film, starring Akshay Kumar, Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, is having a strong run at the box-office with the numbers getting better over the weekend. With the film making more than double the numbers of Jaat on Sunday, it is clear that the audience are favouring the legal drama. However, Jaat does seem to have found an audience in people who love to see action-packed entertainment that reminds them why Sunny Deol is an action superstar for the ages.
While the numbers of Jaat are very low when compared to Sunny Deol’s previous release, Gadar 2, the film is still doing well for being a standalone project that doesn’t have the legacy of a two-decade-old blockbuster. However, it isn’t all smooth sailing for the film, which ran into hot water for certain scenes that were deemed objectionable sections of the audience. Members of the Chrian community filed a case against the makers, Mythri Movie Makers, and actors Sunny, Vineet Kumar Singh and Randeep Hooda, for hurting religious sentiments. The makers nipped the controversy in the bud issuing an apology and deleting the scene from the film.

Nevertheless, the makers of Jaat are quite elated with the response to the film, which also stars Saiyami Kher, Regina Cassandra, and Jagapathi Babu in pivotal roles. Even with the film still making decent numbers, the makers announced that Gopichand and Sunny Deol will reunite for the sequel, titled Jaat 2.
