James Anderson says he is keen to participate in IPL 2025: ‘I want to play cricket again’ | Cricket News
Former England bowler James Anderson said that he was keen to play the Indian Premier League for the first time next season but added that he isn’t aware of any of the 10 franchises’ interests in him.
The England icon who hasn’t featured in a T20 match since 2014, was a surprise name to be included in the l of regered players for the upcoming IPL auction.
“That’s the whole point of going in the auction, I think, I want to play cricket again. Whether I get picked up or not is a different matter. There’s definitely a feeling inside of me that I’ve got more to offer, in some shape or form,” Anderson said to Sky Sports.
“So, however long down the line that might be, in whatever capacity that might be I’m not sure yet. But I’m really keen to play. I feel really fit, I’ve been bowling still, ticking over, so I feel like I’m in a good place and I’d love to have an opportunity to play somewhere,” he added.
Interestingly, Anderson has never competed in a global franchise T20 league, and his last T20 game was in 2014 for Lancashire. Overall, Anderson has only played 44 T20 matches, 19 of those in England colours, while picking up 41 wickets.
Anderson played his last Test match in July at the Lord’s Cricket Ground against West Indies.
With 700 wickets in 187 Tests for England, Anderson is one of the most decorated bowlers in cricket hory. He is only the third bowler—and the only fast bowler—to cross the 700-wicket milestone, joining spin legends Shane Warne (708) and Muttiah Muralitharan (800), a feat he reached in March 2023 against India in Dharamsala.
