‘I don’t know’: Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s cheeky banter with Danny Morrison on if he will come back next year | Ipl News

Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s future is one of the biggest questions on fans’ lips whenever the IPL has rolled out for the last couple of years. While Dhoni has remained tightlipped on what lies ahead, it does not deter him from having fun whenever he gets faced with the retirement question. Such an instant cropped up at the toss against the Punjab Kings on Wednesday when presenter Danny Morrison asked Dhoni if he was coming back next year looking at the crowd’s thunderous ovation at the Chepauk.
Replying to it, Dhoni cheekily said with a smile, “I don’t know. I’m coming for the next game.”
“One of the things is the pride factor. Majority of the games you play at home. Home advantage is very important which we haven’t been able to capitalise on. We’ve been a side where we don’t make a lot of changes. But this season we’ve made a lot of changes. Reason is simple. If most of your players are doing well, then you chop and change 1-2 players. But this season it hasn’t worked for us. It’s also the first season after a fresh auction. So you have something in mind but you have to see where a batter is suited better,” he added at the toss.

Earlier this month, CSK turned to the 43-year-old Dhoni again to lead the franchise, after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered a fracture in his elbow that ruled him out of the tournament.

“He (Gaikwad) got hit in Guwahati. He’s been operating with an amount of pain. We got an X-ray, which was inconclusive, and we had an MRI, which revealed a fracture in his elbow, in the radial neck. So we’re disappointed and feel for him. We appreciate the efforts that he’s gone to in terms of trying to play, but unfortunately, he’d be out of the tournament from now. We have an uncapped player, MS Dhoni, who will take over as captain for the remainder of the IPL,” coach Fleming had said.
However, it hasn’t been a happy return for Dhoni as captain with Chennai Super Kings staring down the barrel with the team set to be eliminated from the playoffs race if they don’t win against Punjab in Wednesday.
