Jasprit Bumrah named ICC Player of the Month for December for exceptional performance at BGT | Cricket News

Jasprit Bumrah on Tuesday won the ICC Player of the Month award for December pipping Australia’s Pat Cummins and South Africa’s Dane Paterson.
The bowler, who took a total of 32 wickets across 5 Tests in Australia, became the fourth-fastest player to get 200 Test wickets in terms of balls bowled. He also was the first bowler in hory to take 200 Test wickets at an average below 20.
The pacer was the standout performer for India in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, taking 22 wickets at an average of 14.22 in December. He started the month with a standout performance in the 2nd Test Adelaide where he took 4 wickets which kept Australia at bay.

He then followed up that feat taking 9 wickets in both Brisbane and Melbourne Test matches, playing a big hand in helping India punch above their weight Down Under.
Bumrah could not bowl in the crucial 5th and final test at Sydney after he suffered from back spasms on Day 2 which led to him leaving the ground to undergo scans.
Meanwhile, the speedster is likely to miss the group stage of next month’s Champions Trophy due to health reasons.
The Indian Express has learnt that Bumrah, who has swelling on his back, has been asked to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru where his recovery will be monitored.
The Champions Trophy, which will have the world’s top eight ODI teams, begins on February 19, with the matches scheduled at Karachi, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Dubai for India’s games.
The national selectors are learnt to have been updated about Bumrah’s fitness status. Though the deadline for announcing squads for the Champions Trophy is Sunday, the BCCI has sought an extension.

Selectors are considering whether they should name Bumrah in the squad of 15 or add him to the l of reserve players for the tournament.
