Opposition-led states are being targeted: CM

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday said whenever elections are announced, governments led by the country’s opposition parties and its leaders are targeted. It is like playing cricket with 13 players where the umpire is also part of the team.

On his return from a three-day electioneering in Uttar Pradesh, Baghel said: “Always opposition leaders and their relatives are targeted by the Central government through the central agencies which acts as umpire after the announcement of the polls.

“It is like playing cricket with 13 players including the umpire. Why no action or raid has been done in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Goa?”

On Uttar Pradesh, he said: “The people are desperate for a change due to various reasons like rising unemployment, shortage of fertilizers, lack of payment to farmers, rising prices, damage to crops due to stray cattle.”

He said that people were interested in adopting the Chhattisgarh model of “higher paddy procurement price and procurement of cow dung”.

He spoke about his meeting with former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi.

On extending the date for paddy procurement, he said: “If the farmers have been issued a token, the paddy will be procured. The reports from district collectors will be sought before arriving at a decision.”
