JD Vance-led US delegation to skip dog-sled race in Greenland, Denmark welcomes move | World News

US Vice President JD Vance, along with his wife Usha Vance, who are to set to visit Greenland on Friday have decided to skip the popular sports event dog sled race and confine their visit to Greenland to a military base amid reports of spat between Copenhagen and White House as US President Donald Trump’s keen interest in taking over the island.
Vice President Vance is set to visit Greenland on Friday with the US delegation but the American representatives have decided to cancel their visit to dog-sled race in Greenland this week, as Vance said that it was part of an “unacceptable pressure” on the semi-autonomous Danish territory.
The White House on Tuesday announced that the vice president would be heading the delegation, along with Second Lady Usha Vance but the delegation would only visit the US Space Base at Pituffik in northern Greenland.

Denmark’s Foreign Miner Lars Lokke Rasmussen has said that it was clearly a de-escalation from the earlier stance of President Trump, where he had even said to annex Greenland for security reasons.

“I think it’s very positive that the Americans cancelled their visit to the Greenlandic society. Instead, they will visit their own base, Pituffik, and we have nothing against that,” miner Rasmussen added.
A Reuters report quoted a recent poll which suggested that nearly all citizens of Greenland oppose becoming part of the United States, and the island has witnessed some of the largest demonstrations recently against America with protesters wearing ‘Make America Go Away’ caps and holding ‘Yankees go home’ banners.
The pre-planned cultural visit to Greenland was earlier being led Usha Vance, but it was announced that her husband JD Vance would accompany her and he said that he “didn’t want her to have all that fun herself.”
