Jimmy Anderson asked to retire England coach Brendon McCullum: Report | Cricket News

England’s record wicket-taker in Test cricket, James Anderson is set to call it quits from the longest format this summer after England’s Test head coach Brendon McCullum told him that the team was looking to make changes.
As per The Guardian, McCullum made a visit to the UK from New Zealand to personally convey the message to the 41-year-old seamer that the Test team is looking to incorporate changes for the coming future.
According to the England daily, the management is looking towards the Ashes 2025/26 series down under and doesn’t see Anderson making the cut for the same.
The only seamer to claim 700 Test wickets – a milestone he crossed during this year’s five-match Test series in India – Anderson has been short on wickets and conceded big in his recent outings.
Playing during the Ashes in England last summer, the veteran seamer had only claimed five wickets from four outings. In England’s five-match series loss to India – 4-1 – earlier this year, Anderson had picked 10 wickets from four matches.
When asked if he saw him make the place in England’s next Ashes series in India, McCullum had said, “I don’t know, honestly. Who knows where the end line for him is but for now, just enjoy having Jimmy around and make sure we utilise that experience he’s got. He’s a great resource for the other guys within the unit.”
England’s Test team are scheduled to play against the West Indies and Sri Lanka in the Tests at home this summer.
