This Rs 6,149 ‘Made in India’ device looks like a speaker, but is actually the most practical way to beat the North Indian chill | Technology News

I had never seen a heater before I moved to North India over 25 years ago. Over the years, as I started getting exposed to winters unknown to me in the first half of my life, I have turned to many things, from hot water bottles to electric blankets, as well as heaters and blowers of different kinds. But the Nuuk Hot Bar doesn’t look like anything that has kept me warm over the years.
In fact, the Nuuk Hot Bar looks like a large Bluetooth speaker with its hot red colours, stylish handlebars, and mesh on the front. I would not be surprised if this was originally designed as an outdoor speaker and then someone decided to change the innards to make it something not so cool. All pun aside, the design also makes it a very practical product to use, easy to move around, and a showpiece in the living room. And, having seen a few Nuuk products over the past year, I am sure this was intentional design.

The design is also simple. On one side is a touch panel with power, heat intensity, fan speed, and timer buttons. They all have LEDs to indicate the selected range, but on dark mornings, there is nothing to touch and feel as the power button. If you are like me, who prefers to keep the device standing tall, then the controls are on the top and easily accessible.
The size and style are both deceiving as the 220W Nuuk Hot Bar packs some solid warmth, even without going to the higher levels. Unlike the blowers I was used to, the heat from this device also radiates over a wider range and not just in front of it. You can select the intelligent Eco mode or just prefer the 18 or 24 degree Celsius settings to make it exactly as warm as you want it to be.

At night, the timer comes in very handy, and you can set it up to make the room toasty enough for you to get a good night’s sleep and not make it too hot the morning. It helps that the Nuuk Hot Bar is pretty quiet and does not become the reason you are struggling to sleep at night.
I liked the design also because the mesh on the front does not heat up enough to burn your fingers, making this a good option for homes with kids.
At Rs 6149, the Nuuk Hot Bar is a well-made, Indian product for the winters, one that tells us good design can also be fun and very practical. However, you have to pay a premium for the design and convenience.
