Jumper Shaili looks forward to int’l season after gold at Indian Open

Indian long jumper Shaili Singh has started the 2025 season with a strong jump of 6.45m to breach the Asian Athletics Championships qualification mark of 6.41m on Tuesday. The youngster from Uttar Pradesh won the gold medal at the one-day Indian Open Athletics and booked her berth for the continental championship.
Delighted at breaching the qualification mark, the 21-year-old athlete is now looking forward to securing more podium finishes in top international events this year.
“I am extremely elated to have breached the Asian Athletics Championship qualification mark with a jump of 6.45m in the first tournament of this season,” Shaili said.

“This year, I will be eyeing a podium finish, and I am training hard and preparing myself for the same.”
It will be the second appearance for Shaili, who finished second in the last edition of the tournament, recording the best jump of 6.54m and losing the gold medal to Sumire Hata of Japan, who jumped 6.94m.
Shaili also competed in the World Championships 2023 edition and finished 14th with an underwhelming mark of 6.40m.
