US President Donald Trump said on Friday he will send the National Guard to Memphis to tackle crime, insing both the city’s Democratic mayor and Republican governor support the move.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said: “The mayor is happy. The governor is happy” about the deployment. He described Memphis as “deeply troubled” and added: “We’re going to fix that just like we did Washington,” referring to earlier deployments of the Guard and federal law enforcement.

Trump has already sent troops to Los Angeles and Washington and has openly considered similar moves in Democratic-led cities such as Chicago and Baltimore.

He admitted he “would have preferred going to Chicago,” but claimed local leaders there remain strongly opposed, describing the city as “a hostile place with professional agitators.”
