Kajol shuts down rumours of being offered Sunny Deol’s Gadar, reveals why she doesn’t use her surname: ‘Didn’t want the baggage of lineage’ | Bollywood News

Earlier, several reports suggested that Kajol was initially considered for the role of Sakina in Sunny Deol’s Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. However, the actor dismissed this rumour at News18’s Rising Bharat Summit in New Delhi on Tuesday. She also opened up about the reason behind not using her surname.
During the event, when asked about being offered the role of Ameesha Patel’s Sakina in Gadar, Kajol clarified and said, “Gadar was not offered to me. It was a rumour.” She also admitted that many other movies were offered to her, which she rejected because of various factors. “A lot of films were offered to me. I will not name them. Those films have been made. Some were hits, others weren’t. I think you can’t claim work which you haven’t done.”
Kajol also recalled that when she was entering Bollywood, her mother, Tanuja, suggested using her last name, pointing to the legacy of her grandparents. However, Kajol chose to stay true to herself and avoid the pressure of living up to the family’s legacy.

She shared, “It was a conscious choice. Meri maa ne mujhe puchha tha jab main pictures mein aana chahti thi. Mujhe puchha tha ki you have such an amazing lineage from your grandmother and grandfather’s side as well. Mujhe uss waqt, aur abhi bhi, lagta hai ki mujhe kisi ki tarafdaari nahi karni thi. (My mother had asked me when I wanted to enter the industry. She had said, ‘You have such an amazing lineage from both your grandmother and grandfather’s side.’ But even then, and now, I feel that I didn’t want to take sides).”
Kajol continued, “I wanted to be true to myself and did not want the baggage of lineage. Toh isliye maine socha ki agar main sirf Kajol ke naam se jaani jaau, to shayad itna pressure nahi aayega mujh par. (That’s why I thought if I am known simply the name Kajol, maybe there wouldn’t be as much pressure on me).”
The Do Patti actor also pointed out that she is one of the ‘least working’ actors in the film industry. Explaining the reason behind doing fewer movies, she said, “I am the least worked actor in the whole film industry. Puri film industry mein jo log recently aaye hai unn logon ne zyada kaam kiya hoga mujhse zayada. I think my filmography is all about 50-55 films. That’s it.”Story continues below this ad

When asked if she is choosy or lazy, Kajol replied, “Dono. I choose to be lazy. I choose to have a slower life. I choose to enjoy my life along with working. I think working should be part of my life and not my life. I have found a balance in life. I like my coffee, slow morning. I love my life.”
On the work front, Kajol has Sarzameen, Maharagni – Queen of Queens and Maa in her kitty.
