Kalka-Shimla highway reopens for light vehicles after landslide closure

In a significant development, the Chandigarh-Shimla Highway, also known as the Kalka Shimla highway (NH-05), which had been rendered impassable due to a severe landslide near Chakki Mor in Parwanoo, has now been reopened for light vehicles and pick-ups. The closure, which lasted nearly a week, caused significant disruptions to traffic flow between the two cities. (HT Photo) For heavy vehicles, the Solan police have advised the use of the Shimla-Kunihar-Nalagarh-Pinjore route. All heavy vehicles moving from Kumarhatti towards Chandigarh are advised to take Nahan Road.On the other hand, heavy vehicles making their way from Chandigarh towards Shimla are advised to follow the route via Kala Amb, Nahan, and Kumarhatti.“Alternatively, the Nalagarh-Ramshahar-Kunihar-Solan-Shimla route is also available for heavy vehicles,” said Solan superintendent of police Gaurav Singh.The reopening of the Kalka-Shimla highway for light vehicles brings a much-needed relief to commuters and businesses that rely on this vital road connection. Authorities, however, urge all motors to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to ensure safe travel.
