Kapil Sharma’s TV show audience is paid the makers, no concept of buying tickets: ‘Voh fraud hai, vaisa koi system hi nahi’ | Bollywood News

Kapil Sharma has been the host of his comedy show, in different formats and platforms, since 2013, and in all those years, audience has always been curious to know how one gets to be a part of the live audience in the studio that gets to watch the show as it happens, and also interact with the guests. In a new interview, actor Vikalp Mehta, who has worked on a few episodes of Kapil’s show and accompanied him on his US tour, said that a large part of the audience on the television show are paid junior artes.
In a chat with YTMahendra Podcast’s YouTube channel, Vikalp explained how a standard episode is shot in the studio. He shared that there are no retakes because the show operates like a live play, and they only take breaks in between segments. He shared that the first segment could be Kapil delivering his monologue, or sharing some banter with Archana Puran Singh, and the next could be inviting the celebrity guests and chatting with them. He said that usually, between these two segments, there is a small break.
“The audience stays put in between the breaks. Or if the break is almost 15 minutes, then they are also told that they can take a break. In case there is a lunch break, then that will take around an hour,” he said. When asked if the audience has to pay for their own ticket to be on the show, Vikalp said that as far as he knows, there is no concept of purchasing tickets for the television show.

“I am not a hundred percent sure, but as far as I know, no money is charged to be on the show,” he said and added that part of the audience is paid the makers. “Those are the junior artes,” he said and added, “For instance, the shoot starts at 10 am, and it will go on till 8 pm or perhaps till 11 pm, so they need the same faces in the audience who can be professional and sit in the same place for these many hours and clap with just as much enthusiasm. They need audiences that will take instructions from them. They pay that audience and fill up the room. It’s the same with most TV shows. They are provided with food and water.”
Vikalp added that even with that part of the audience constituting junior artes, the rest of the people are guests. He said, “20 percent of the audience are the guests. Like I am on the show, so I can call my guests. Or they might have other guests in the audience, personal guests.” He also insed that there is no concept of buying tickets to the televised show. “There is no concept of paying Rs 500-1000 for a ticket to be on the show,” he said and added, “Voh fraud hai, vaisa koi hai hi nahi system. (That’s fraud. That system does not ex.)”
