Karate Kid Legends trailer unites Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio in action-packed legacy-quel | Hollywood News

Sony Pictures has just dropped a new trailer for the much-awaited film Karate Kids: Legends, starring Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio and Ben Wang. The trailer introduces the film’s protagon, Li Wong (Ben Wang), who, in classic Karate Kid fashion, moves to a new city with his mother in order to begin afresh. The reason for the move seems to be connected with the death of Wong’s elder brother, but it hasn’t been specified in the trailer.
Jackie Chan reprises his role as Mr Han from the 2010 Karate Kid reboot, that featured Jaden Smith. Joining the Kung Fu master will be the Miyagi-Do’s Daniel LaRusso, played Ralph Macchio, the original Karate Kid. In the trailer, Chan’s character visits Machhio’s character and pleads for him to teach Li his skills.

The basic themes of the franchise seem to be intact in the new film as well: ‘new kid who is trying to fit in uses martial arts and its lessons to make a space for himself’. Similar themes also mean a predictable narrative, but the movie has been successful in generating anticipation due to the crossover of Daniel LaRusso and Mr Han. While Mr Han has been away from the spotlight since the last movie, LaRusso has been going strong in the Netflix series Cobra Kai alongside his rival turned friend Johnny Lawrence played William Zabka.
While fans would love more characters from the Netflix show to appear in the movie, no announcements have been made to the effect. The current cast includes Joshua Jackson, Ming-Na Wen, Shaunette Renée Wilson and Sadie Stanley. Excluding the Netflix series, this will be the sixth Karate Kid film.
