Karun Nair says he dreams everyday of finding a way back into India’s Test team | Cricket News
Indian batter Karun Nair after scoring a majestic triple ton in the fifth Test against England in 2016 could not deliver sustainable performances later when given opportunities for the national side. Apart from the gigantic hundered Nair only managed to make 71 runs in the remainder of his six innings in his international red-ball career.
Speaking to this publication in the past Nair about getting dropped after scoring triple ton would say “It is difficult, but I haven’t gone forth and asked anything, but yeah, we haven’t had any conversation.” When asked about aspirations to play for India at the time he would say “Not really, because it is important for me first concentrate on what’s happening over here and whatever has to happen, I have no control over it. My only focus is to do well here and contribute to Karnataka.”
However, the chances given to him between the Tests were scattered But despite being out of contention Nair still hopes to play red-ball cricket for the nation in the future.
However, in his latest interview, with ESPN Cricinfo Nair was quoted saying: “It’s still exciting to wake up each morning and dream of finding a way back to play Test cricket. That keeps me going I feel like I’m batting as well as I’ve ever done. I am in a good head space, I know where my game is. I am just making sure if I get opportunities, wherever it may be, the focus is on making the most of those chances so that I can climb up the stairs again,” he added.
The batter also off-late has been piling runs lately in domestic cricket. He made 690 runs for Vidarbha in the 2023/24 Ranji season when the team reached the final however, lost to Mumbai. “They say a player peaks at 30-31, I would like to believe that’s true in my case,” he said. “The last year has been good. After last year’s Maharaja T20, I had a pretty good domestic season.”
