Cameron Green ‘back up’ for Ashes, Mitchell Marsh is ‘very proud’ to be back in the Test side after four years

IPL 2023: All-rounder Mitchell Marsh is back in the frame for Test cricket for the first time in four years, having been named in Australia’s 17-man squad for the World Test Championship Final (WTC) to be played against India and the Ashes.
Marsh, who has endured several frustrating injuries, has been added to the team as a backup option for Cameron Green.
“I am very proud to come back to the Test side. I am really proud to be in the squad. I had ankle surgery five-six months ago, and now I am part of the Ashes Series in England. It will be my third Ashes in England, which is great. I am looking forward to it. Hopefully, I will stay long (this time). I will be a backup for Cameron Green there,” he told reporters.

The all-rounder is using IPL as a platform to prepare for the upcoming 50-over World Cup.
“Anytime you get to play in these conditions, you are learning something new, something different. Every ground here is different. It is just about gaining more experience.
“In the past, we have seen that the IPL has done wonders for overseas cricketers. Guys have come here to improve, go back to international cricket and dominate it,” he said.
Delhi Capitals has suffered five losses on the trot, and their batting has been their weak link.
“There’s no doubt that we would like to be batting better. In all our five matches, we haven’t been able to get off to a reasonable start or we have lost wickets in clumps.
“We have to string partnerships, and we need one player to get a big score, which we have not been able to do.

“It’s always difficult when things are not going right for the team. However, the spirits are high in the camp; hopefully, we can get a win in our next game and turn things around,” he said.
When asked about his own form with the bat, Marsh said: “What’s really been important for me in the past couple of years has been to be the most consent batter as I can be.”
“At no No 3, I can dictate, and I’ve got a lot of confidence in my processes and routines to go out there and play aggressively from ball one.
“I’ve not been able to execute my plans in the three games that I have played this season. But I know that my process works and therefore, it’s about sticking to your process and having good intent. Hopefully, I can start scoring runs,” he said.
Marsh also opened up about the inability of young Indian batsmen to face the quality pace and said they must face the ball, not the bowler.
“I think it’s really important for the young players to not play the bowlers but the ball. When someone is bowling at 140 or 150, ultimately, you will have to watch it and react accordingly.
“Facing the fast bowlers of the world is an invaluable experience to all youngsters. Guys like Yash Dhull have a great future; he is a great young kid, he loves learning, and that’s the kind of culture we have here in Delhi, everyone wants to learn and be better but unfortunately, the results don’t show at the moment.”
