KL Rahul ‘avoids’ interaction with former club boss after helping DC to victory over LSG | Ipl News

After a thrilling game between the host Lucknow Super Giants and the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025  at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, DC batter KL Rahul stole the show not once, but twice, with the second being the more discussed of the two. The DC wicketkeeper batter ‘taught’ his former club and owner a lesson of sorts with a game-winning unbeaten knock of 57 from 42 deliveries.
A six over mid-wicket in the penultimate ball of the 18th over to seal the game, followed handshakes and celebrations, ended when KL Rahul, walking down the pitch, came across former club LSG’s owner Sanjiv Goenka and his son Shashwat Goenka. Even though the father-son duo was in the mood to interact, congratulate and catch up with the former LSG man, Rahul did not replicate their interest in the least. Clips circulating on social media show Rahul shaking hands with Goenka before promptly resuming his walk down the pitch, even though the LSG owner and son were expecting to converse with the game-winner, as evidenced their body language.
Rahul’s reaction can be better explained revisiting the conditions in which he parted ways with the LSG franchise after a three-year stint. As per reports, a fallout between player and club owner Sanjiv Goenka is the main reason Rahul opted to switch sides in the IPL. With the turbulent state of his departure still fresh in his mind, the record-holder cold-shouldered his former boss.
Familiar with the Ekana Cricket Stadium and the way the pitch behaves, Rahul’s controlled and composed knock against his former side also saw him break the record for fastest player to reach 5000 runs in the competition. Achieving the 5000-run mark in just 130 innings, the DC man surpassed the former record holder, David Warner, who achieved the same in 135 outings.
