Left politician supports Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak against trolls who plan to boycott the film
Last night, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone had visited the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus to stand up against the attack on the students. Just like Deepika, many other celebrities have also voiced their opinions over the incidents happening in the country over the past few weeks. However, Deepika’s move seems to have upset many as hashtag ‘boycott Chhapaak’ has been trending on Twitter since last night. Chhapaak is Deepika’s upcoming film that is scheduled to release January 10.
Recently, politician Md Salim of Communist Party of India (Marxist) took to Twitter to express his support for Chhapaak. In his tweet, Md Salim shared how trolls are sharing screenshots of the same movie ticket and claiming to boycott the biographical drama.
His tweet read, “So ₹2 trolls of BJP are boycotting #Chhapaak by booking & cancelling the tickets & posting the screenshots on Twitter. But none of them have booked any ticket as 100s of these SS mention same seat. They must join #BharatBandh & demand better pay from IT Cell. #JNUUnderAttack”
Earlier today, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician Tajinder Pal Singh shared a tweet asking supporters to boycott Chhapaak. In a tweet, BJP leader BL Santhosh also slammed Deepika for visiting JNU and showing solidarity with the students.
Recently, in an interview, Deepika had also opened up about the attack on JNU students. She shared that she hopes that this does not become the new normal in the country. She also said that she is angry over what is happening.
Meanwhile, Chhapaak has been directed by Meghna Gulzar and is based on the life of acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal. In the movie, Deepika plays the role of an acid attack survivor named Malti. Deepika is also co-producing the film and it is her first venture as a producer.
