Lionel Messi drops hint on Inter Miami debut, talks about playing for Argentina at next World Cup

Lionel Messi scored the fastest goal of his career against Australia on Thursday and led Argentina to a 2-0 friendly win over Australia.
After the match, Messi spoke about his move to the Major League Soccer (MLS) and suggested that he will kickstart his career in mid-to-late July with Inter Miami. He also gave a hint about his future as a player in the next World Cup that will be held in 2026.
“I want to on my holiday and then afterwards, we go again,” he was quoted as saying the dailymail.co.uk when asked about his Miami schedule.
On the 2026 World Cup he said, “It is difficult for it to happen.
“What I said (about Qatar 2022 likely being his last World Cup) is something normal due to age and time.
“Qualifying matches are coming, then the Copa America, it is very far to think about the World Cup.
“You have to enjoy the present, think about what’s to come, despite the wins – we can’t stay with that.”
Earlier, Messi had scored with almost his first touch, only a week after deciding to leave Paris Saint-Germain for Inter Miami.
Argentina will next travel to Jakarta to face Indonesia on Monday, while Australia will face England in October as it prepares for the Asian Cup in Qatar in January.
