In a game where the Argentine maestro failed to find the net, a spectacular diving header from Benjamin Cremaschi secured the win for Inter Miami. The Herons were up against Columbus Crew in the MLS on Sunday, and even thought the scoreline did not feature Lionel Messi, the player did play a huge role in breaking an MLS record.
Prior to the game on Sunday at Huntington Bank Field, Lower.com Field was the go to venue for home games for Columbus. However, Lionel Messi featuring for their opponents and the likeliness that the game will be one that brings in lots of supporters made Columbus shift their home ground to Huntington Bank Field on Sunday. The venue is home to NFL side Cleveland Browns, and is located in Ohio, 145 miles away from Columbus’ home venue for every other game MLS fixture this campaign.
The fans that poured in to witness the game, and Lionel Messi in particular, broke the club record for Columbus for most fans in attendance for a home game ever in the League. The 60,614 fans in attendance on Sunday also meant that this is the highest number of fans that turned up at Huntington for a non-NFL fixture.

The game in itself swayed both ways over 90 minutes, before Miami finally took home all three points thanks to a diving header from Benjamin Cremaschi in the 30th minute. Messi came close to scoring on multiple occasions, but saw his shots fly high and wide of the post. When he managed to hit the target, he was swarmed a sea of opposition defenders, making it difficult for the 37-year-old to wriggle free and find the net.
Despite the subdued performance, Messi still leads the goal scoring charts for his side in all competitions, with 8 goals in all competitions. Luis Suarez, with 4, is trailing behind in second.
