Lionel Messi nears new Inter Miami deal to lead club into Miami Freedom Park era | Football News

Lionel Messi’s magical Miami journey may soon be extended, as Inter Miami edge closer to finalising a new contract that would see the Argentine legend lead the club into its new chapter at Miami Freedom Park.
The World Cup-winning forward, who arrived in July 2023 on a deal running through 2025, is now expected to re-sign with the club. According to The Athletic, quoting sources familiar with the negotiations, talks are in advanced stages, and although the finer points are still being finalised, optimism is high within the franchise.
A renewed deal would be a significant coup for Inter Miami and Major League Soccer (MLS), as Messi’s influence has transformed the club into a serious contender on multiple fronts.

Managing owner Jorge Mas, who has been directly involved in the negotiations, recently hinted at positive momentum during an interview with FDP Radio Miami.
“The stars are aligning for something great, for a beautiful future for the club and for Lionel,” said Mas. “It’s solely his decision. My hope has always been, and everything we’re doing, is to see Messi play at our new stadium in 2026.”
Mas believes a final decision could arrive within the next 60-90 days.
Messi continues to dazzle on the pitch. On Wednesday, he scored twice in a stunning comeback win over Los Angeles FC, sealing a 3-2 aggregate victory to send Miami to the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinal against the Vancouver Whitecaps. With 42 goals and 21 asss in just 48 appearances, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has not only elevated Miami’s level but also earned them a spot in this summer’s expanded Club World Cup after securing the MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2024.Story continues below this ad
Inter Miami’s state-of-the-art 25,000-seat home — Miami Freedom Park — is slated to open in 2026. Set within a sprawling 131-acre development, the complex will feature a public park, entertainment zones, and hospitality venues. While the stadium was initially expected to debut this year, construction delays pushed the timeline.
The 2025 season will now be Inter Miami’s final run at the Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, before a new era, potentially led Messi, begins in the heart of Miami.
