Krishna Jayasankar, 22, throws shot put at 16.03, sets Indian indoor record with a bronze at Albuquerque | Sport-others News

Krishna Jayasankar currently studying in Texas, United States, sent happy tidings from the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championship held in Albuquerque, as she became the new record-holder in indoor shot put among the Indian women.
The 22-year-old Krishna tossed the iron sphere to a new dance of 16.03 metres that bettered the previous Indian indoor best of 15.54m Maharashtra’s Poornarao Rane, another US residing student athlete.
Krishna ended with a bronze medal for her effort which came in the last round, pushing Colorado State’s Makayla Long to the fourth spot as she was holding a medal chance with 15.98m until the last round.

The youngster is the second daughter of former basketball internationals Prasanna and Asia All Star Jayasankar Menon in Chennai.

Krishna stayed in contention till last round but two other Colorado throwers finished in the top two with Mya Lensar (19.02) and Gab Morns (17.09) delivering better marks in Albuquerque.
With her medal on Sunday, Krishna got selected to take part in the American inter-University NCAA indoor Championships to be held on March 14-15 in Virginia Beach.
It’s been a good week for Indians in indoor meets in the States with dance running star Gulveer Singh posting a highly impressive 12:59.77 in 5000m to become the first Indian to clock a sub-13 minutes performance, helping the Asia mark qualify him for World’s. India has one high-quality indoor track available in Bhubaneswar.
