‘Longest 48 hours of our lives’: R Ashwin’s wife Prithi Narayanan shares heartfelt note | Cricket News
R Ashwin’s wife Prithi Narayanan has penned down a heartfelt note and after Indian spinner returned to play on Day 4 following the “longest 48 hours,” in which he went back home due to family emergency and then came back to play for India.
Ashwin had taken his 500th wicket in Test cricket on the second day of the Rajkot Test and attended the press conference after play. It was only late in night that the news of Ashwin having left the team became public via a statement from the BCCI.
“We chased 500 to Hyderabad, but it didn’t happen. To Vizag, it didn’t happen. So I just thought of a ton of sweets and gave them to everyone at home at 499. Five hundred came and went quietly,” Prithi wrote on Instagram.
“A lot happened between 500 and 501, Longest 48 hours of our lives. But this is about the 500. And the 499 before that.
“What a phenomenal achievement. What an outstanding guy. I am extremely proud of you, R Ashwin. We love you.”
India captain Rohit Sharma also showered praise on the veteran spinner.
“Family comes first, and there was no second thought in our minds when we came to know about his family issue,” he said.
“He wanted to be with his family, and it was the right thing to do. We missed him, but look, he came back, and this shows his character. We were happy to have him back.”
Former India coach Ravi Shastri revealed that R Ashwin has gone back home on a chartered flight arranged Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah.
“BCCI secretary Jay Shah had arranged charter plane for Ashwin’s trip home and back,” Shastri said while doing the commentary.
