It was a cagey affair in the second half with both teams eyeing to score a goal but India held their composure at the back and successfully defended their slim lead. In the final quarter, Australia received a crucial penalty corner, however, they squandered the chance to equalise and handed over the victory to the visitors.
In the first two games against the Australian women’s hockey team, India lost 0-2 and 2-3. While the first game was an easy win for Australia, the Indian team fought well in the second game only to lose one goal.
“The defeats do hurt us, especially when we have conceded soft goals in, but there is nothing that can replace or match up to the intensity of playing these matches. The more games and game time team gets the better it is for the players, especially the younger ones. This tour is of a lot of importance as facing top quality opposition is extremely crucial for the development of the squad,” Chief Coach Harendra Singh had said after the second game’s loss.Story continues below this ad
