Madhavan mocks actors who wear fake moustaches in the name of performance, checks himself immediately: ‘This could be controversial’ | Bollywood News

Gone are the days when the audience would forgive actors for taking shortcuts in their performances, said R Madhavan in a new interview. He checked himself immediately, and said that his comment could be controversial. In the past, Akshay Kumar has been accused of wearing fake moustaches in films, with the director of Samrat Prithviraj even commenting on the controversy this inspired in the wake of the film’s box office failure. The duo will appear together in Kesari 2.
In an interview with India TV, Madhavan said, “The only truth you have is the story and intent behind why you’re making a film. Are you making a movie because you’ve got the dates of all the actors and you’ve already paid them and can’t waste the dates? That used to be a way of doing business; there’s nothing wrong with it. But is story paramount there? Or, have you prepped enough? Have you understood this is the movie we’re making, these are the actors we have, these are the dates we need, this is the look we want; in that case, the movie has a better chance of working.”

He continued, “The movie will actually look sincere. The moment the trailer comes out, you can see the dinct difference in the comments and reactions, as opposed to (what happens) when somebody is working with a stuck moustache, or not being able to get the proper look… I don’t think I should be saying stuck moustache, it’s going to create a lot of controversy. I’m talking about getting into the role in a superficial level. Audiences aren’t ready to forgive you for that. Social media is also keeping us in line, because the comments are so brutal, you can’t afford to ignore them.”
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Samrat Prithviraj director Chandraprakash Dwivedi was asked if YRF chief Aditya Chopra was upset with Akshay for not putting in more of an effort for the movie. He said, “Aditya (Chopra) has never said this. Is it happening for the first time that an actor has worn a fake moustache? On June 2, I, Aditya and Akshay were together, and Aditya categorically told me that he is very happy with the film, and I gave him whatever he wanted, and he will never say that I failed in my duty. Same for Akshay.”
